The National Museum of Romanian History in Bucharest uses specialty gases in cylinders from Messer to carry out physical, chemical and biochemical analysis of archaeological finds in its laboratories. For example, helium is used in micro X-ray fluorescence analysis to determine the composition of metal objects or pigments used on ceramics and any kind of paintings. X-ray diffraction analysis is used, among other things, to analyse building materials from archaeological finds throughout the country, ceramics, soil, stone, gems, glass, bones and corrosion products. This involves the use of a gas mixture consisting of argon and ethane.
