Stefan Messer awarded title of Honorary Senator of the TU Darmstadt

Stefan Messer awarded title of Honorary Senator of the TU Darmstadt

Stefan Messer, managing partner of the largest privately managed industrial gas specialist Messer, was presented with the title of Honorary Senator of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences on July 8.

The Senate of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences awarded Stefan Messer the title of Honorary Senator on July 8 in recognition of his achievements in promoting research and vocational training for outstanding talented young scientists. In particular the Senate praised Stefan Messer’s commitment as a member of the foundation board of the Adolf Messer Stiftung, which supports scientific projects and scientific and teaching facilities. At Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences the Adolf Messer Stiftung promotes young scientists and their research with the Adolf Messer Prize, which is awarded each year and comes with prize money of 50,000 euros.
At the same time the title of Honorary Senator of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences was awarded to Dr. med. Harald Ruths.

The title of Honorary Senator of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences is presented in recognition of special services to support the university.

The cooperation between Messer and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences has a tradition that bridges generations. Adolf Messer – the grandfather of Stefan Messer and founder of the Messer Group – was awarded the title of Doctor Engineer as long ago as May 1949 for his groundbreaking work in the fields of welding technology, gas separation and the technical application of oxygen and in remembrance of the fact that he had his student roots in Darmstadt. His son Hans Messer was also made an Honorary Senator in October 1985. And so Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences chose this way to reward his special efforts to build a bridge between science and industrial practice and between economics and technology.
